چکیده

In this study oesophageal photoplethysmograph data from eight patients under positive pressure ventilation was analysed to test the hypothesis that the modulations created by the ventilation in the AC PPG single could be used to estimate the venous saturation. In order to estimate the instantaneous arterial and venous saturation Smoothed-pseudo WignerVille Distribution (SPWVD) was utilised. The result from this study showed that there was no significant different in the conventional (time domain) arterial saturation and the instantaneous arterial saturation. However, the instantaneous venous saturation estimated with the ventilator modulation were significantly lower then the conventional arterial saturation (P=0.008) and also from the instantaneous arterial saturation (P=0.008)

Heart rate and blood pressure estimation from compressively sensed photoplethysmograph

In this paper we consider the problem of low power SpO2 sensors for acquiring Photoplethysmograph (PPG) signals. Most of the power in SpO2 sensors goes to lighting red and infra-red LEDs. We use compressive sensing to lower the amount of time LEDs are lit, thereby reducing the signal acquisition power. We observe power savings by a factor that is comparable to the sampling rate. At the receiver...

Photoplethysmography: beyond the calculation of arterial oxygen saturation and heart rate.

In this article, I examine the source of the photoplethysmograph (PPG), as well as methods of investigation, with an emphasize on amplitude, rhythm, and pulse analysis. The PPG waveform was first described in the 1930s. Although considered an interesting ancillary monitor, the "pulse waveform" never underwent intensive investigation. Its importance in clinical medicine was greatly increased wit...

Proof of concept non-invasive estimation of peripheral venous oxygen saturation

BACKGROUND Pulse oximeters continuously monitor arterial oxygen saturation. Continuous monitoring of venous oxygen saturation (SvO2) would enable real-time assessment of tissue oxygen extraction (O2E) and perfusion changes leading to improved diagnosis of clinical conditions, such as sepsis. METHODS This study presents the proof of concept of a novel pulse oximeter method that utilises the co...

Simultaneous estimation of arterial and venous oxygen saturation using a camera

Optical monitoring of arterial blood oxygenation, SpO2, using cameras has recently been shown feasible by measuring the relative amplitudes of the remotely sensed PPG waveforms captured at different wavelengths. SvO2 measures the venous blood oxygenation which together with SpO2 provides an indication of tissue oxygen consumption. In contrast to SpO2 it usually still requires a blood sample fro...

Respiration and Heart Rate Monitoring from Photoplethysmograph Signal

Photoplethysmograph is a simple and cost effective method to assess cardiovascular related parameters such as heart rate, arterial blood oxygen saturation, BP the fact that the Photoplethysmograph (PPG) signal caries respiratory information. Earlier physicians used to insert separate sensors to assess respiration and heart rate. In this present work, an efficient algorithm is presented, based o...
